Couple jumping on a cliff during a foggy day in YorkshirePin it

So here is my best of 2014…but first I have to start by saying, THANK YOU. 2014 was absolutely amazing. Just like this couple and all those whose weddings I photographed.

I have had so much support from my wedding industry friends (you know who you are) and from my family (especially Tom my husband) who have been the pillars of strength in helping me build a photography business, that is really a dream job. I often have to pinch myself to remind me how fortunate I am to be doing something I love for work, but to be honest, for me, the couples become an extension of my large gujju garba dancing family, who happen to be getting married and in the process, drinking lots of tea (and booze), partying hard and getting a bit emotional.

I’ve had haldi on my face and my cameras, I’ve swam in the Indian Ocean to get some lush photos , I have eaten way toooooo many gulab jamuns and danced to some classic hip-hop mixed with bolly-bhangra. I have cried at being mentioned in the speeches, I’ve climbed trees and laughed at making up ridiculous hashtags whilst driving with couples to an e-shoots. I’ve applied mascara and nail varnish for brides and draped a saree or two, I have watched match of the day and Formula 1 racing with grooms, I’ve been to the beach plenty of times and had sand between my toes, I’ve been to a wedding festival and enjoyed the sack races, the live bands and the ice-cream and been on bouncy castles. I’ve had a pot of masala chai with the mother of the bride and I have drunk mango vodka shots with the bridal party. Yes, this is all part of my job.

I shot, 20 pre-wed shoots, 22 (3 day) weddings, a destination wedding in Zanzibar and attended numerous workshops ( including two with my favourites, Fer Juaristi and Nordica), along the way, I have met some very talented photographers who have become good friends and I look forward to new adventures with them this year.

I have photographed Indian weddings in London, Cardiff, Manchester, Leicester, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Milton Keynes, Huddersfield, Leeds, Bradford, Cheshire, Birmingham, Hampshire, Swansea, Harrogate, Yorkshire Dales, York and Zanzibar.

Special thank you to Soniya, Aisha, Nishit, Jay, Jaye and to Manny from NAWS and the team at BvG.

2014 also saw me being nominated for The wedding Industry Award for best photographer and although I didn’t win, I made it to the regional finals, woohooo. Thank you to all the couples who voted for me and for your kind words. Some of those testimonials were really emotional. I’m so glad I can be more than just an Asian wedding photographer for you, and grateful for your friendship. Read more about TWIA and what the couples had to say here.

Hello 2015…

The year starts with a wedding fair in Birmingham in January at the Motorcycle Museum, followed by a wedding at the Serena Hotel in Mombasa, Kenya and then I am all across the UK photographing Indian weddings in Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester, Procida(Italy), London, Kent and Surrey. I cannot wait to document all the beautiful Indian weddings lined up this year.

This year I will also be expanding the team and two lovely photographers will be joining me from the end of January. Watch this space.

If you like what you see and would like to book your wedding photography, please contact me for more information. I’d love to hear from you.

PS: hope you have a cuppa chaa in hand.

Have a wonderful year ahead 🙂

Go! Go! Go!

best northern wedding photographer for Indian weddingsPin it

WOW! For those that know me, I’m not often speechless, but I totally was when I found out I was shortlisted as a regional finalist for best wedding photographer in the North East category, I was thrilled. Being a Regional Finalist for The Wedding Industry Award amongst some truly amazing photographers was such an honour.

I read all the kind things written about me on The Wedding Industry Awards website a few weeks ago and was totally stoked, all those lovely things you said, just made me feel so grateful.

I entered The Wedding Industry Awards for the first time in 2014 and what a fantastic response. I love being an Indian wedding photographer and it’s been a privilege to capture all the weddings I have shot thus far.

To all the couples that voted, a big heartfelt THANK YOU.

Here are some of the kind words.

“Bhavna was not only the amazing photographer at our wedding, she was amazing at helping with anything else that would take stress away from me at the time and got involved with everyone. Her photographs are fantastic and so vivid and colourful. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bhavna to any of my friends and family. She’s not formal yet extremely professional and puts you at ease right away.

Indian and English Wedding in Knutsford by female photographerPin it

Bhavna was professional and enthusiastic throughout our wedding day, she was friendly to all our guests from different countries, and understood the feel of our day from the beginning which made it relaxing for us and our guests, resulting in exactly the style of photographs that we wanted. The quality of her images absolutely overwhelmed us and there were quiet, intimate moments captured for us which we will treasure. Bhavna is a very special person who we were happy to have as part of our day.

Bhavna’s photographs perfectly captured the spirit of both our civil ceremony at a registry office and our Wedding Festival which we held a couple of months later in our back garden. Her beautiful pictures captured the fun and energy, as well as the emotions of the two days, and will always be treasured. As well as being incredibly talented she is an absolutely lovely person, who got on with all guests, children, cats and dogs! We were very lucky to find her.

Bhavna is an amazing photographer with a beautiful personality. The ability to capture the natural moments and attention to detail is first rate. She has a natural flair in setting you up for the best shots and the fact that she gets to know you on an almost personal level to be able to get a sense of what works best makes the difference.

All I can say, is this girl is the best we could have wished for. She helped us plan our day, kept us organised amongst all the chaos and put a smile on our face every step of the way. She really understands the ceremonies (especially for an Indian wedding) and captured all the key moments that we wouldn’t have even imagined. She uses any venue/background as her blank canvas and transforms it into something magical and unique, which is truly memorable and something we will cherish forever.

Bhavna is a great photographer who has the ability to understand a couple and their needs. She is able to mingle and become one of the family on the wedding day but also is able to work behind the scenes. This is a photographer who works to perfection.

After meeting Bhavna, we felt we had already known her for years! I had some concerns with taking close up pics as I have previously suffered with BDD which is a self image disorder. Bhavna talked to me about what I was comfortable with. She made me feel at ease and I was happy to be snapped by her! For our pre shoot she did an amazing job and made use of the ever changing weather to get some fantastic shots. Bhavna manages to read situations and becomes a part of the family! Everyone loved her

Bhavna was a fantastic photographer. She immersed herself into the family immediately so it was easy for us all to feel relaxed around her. The morning of the wedding, crash..Bhavna had fallen down the stairs. She could have called it a day but she stayed and managed to keep a smile on her face! She was friendly, funny and accomodating. She was there to adjust my outfit, top my makeup and remind me to eat above and beyond her role, she was far more than a photographer she was a friend.

Bhavna was professional and excellent in all the photographs she took.

Made us feel at ease and managed to cope with complicated Asian family politics admirably!

Why Did You Book Bhavna?

“I knew from the first time I spoke to her that she was going to be able to deliver exactly what we needed and she went over and above our expectations, a truly creative person.

Came highly recommended

Bhavna was recommended by another photographer whose work I loved. As soon as we chatted I knew she would be perfect for us. She understood exactly what we were after.

Great personality.

Female Wedding Photogapher LeedsPin it

She loves tea and boy does she know how to use a camera. She helped us plan the day and the organisation that went into our pre-wed shoot was unbelievable. She chose the best locations and themes suited to our personalities. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED WITH THIS PHOTOGRAPHER. If I could be a judge myself, I would give her 11 out of 10! She is simply outstanding and a pleasure to work with on both a professional and personal level. Not only was she our photographer, but I feel a friend for life. That’s how good she is!

Coming froma dual heritage background I needed someone who understood the cultural differences and adapted well. Bhavna ticked this box.

Her service and cooperation was a cut above the rest. I can honestly say that booking Bhavna was absolute value for money and worth every penny. We looked at so many photographers and the work we saw and the friendliness and attention to detail simply didn’t compare. Upon the first meeting with Bhavna we had already decided on booking her before we even walked away.

her work is outstanding and the creativity shone.

“Bhavna was recommended to us by a friend who used her for his wedding. Theirs was a destination wedding and they were so pleased with her flexibility and involvement in the wedding we had to meet her. After seeing their wedding pics and being so comfortable with Bhavna, we knew she was the one for us! We can’t thank her enough for capturing our big day in such a beautiful way.

Her pictures were amazing and also as ours was a fusion wedding, it was important to me that the photographer knew the right moments to capture in particular at the indian ceremony

This is all kinds of wonderful!
Bhavna you truly have a gift. Loving all your work.
Thank you so much for being such a huge part of our day. Will definitely be recommending your talents to all of our friends. 🙂
